Ride Joburg is proud to launch the Free Ride initiative – a chance for those who dream of riding, but face financial barriers, to be part of this year’s iconic Ride Joburg road race.
We believe in the power of cycling; not just as a sport, but as a lifeline. It’s how many get around, connect, build community, stay healthy, and live longer, fuller lives.
At Ride Joburg, we’re committed to improving the demographic representation of our field and enabling broader access to the sport we love. Through the Free Ride initiative, we aim to support riders who may not otherwise be able to afford an entry - particularly those from underrepresented groups - to help grow a more inclusive cycling culture in South Africa.
If you genuinely cannot afford to enter this year’s Ride Joburg 97km road race, and meet the application criteria (see Ts & Cs below), we welcome your application. Please note Free Ride applications close on the 15th of September 2026
Join us on the 22nd of November to Ride Joburg at its Best.
Only one application per person will be accepted.
Free entries apply only to individual (solo) participants in the 97km distances.
Cyclists must be 18 years or older by the event date (22 November 2026).
Free entries are available to South African residents only.
Free entries are limited to cyclists whose households earn less than R10,000 per month.
Cyclists who have already entered the 2026 Ride Joburg event are not eligible to apply for a free entry.
To apply, you must consent to Ride Joburg accessing your credit report, to help determine your eligibility based on affordability.
The free entry is valid only for the 2026 Ride Joburg and is non-transferable, non-substitutable, and cannot be changed to another distance or deferred to a future event.
Cyclists who do not use their 2026 free entry will not be eligible to apply again in the future, unless they notify the Ride Joburg Race Office in writing before race day (22 November 2026).
All standard event Terms & Conditions apply.
Applications close Monday 15 September 2026, at midnight.
Successful applicants will be notified on Wednesday 30 September 2026, and will receive their unique promo code to redeem their free entry.
Free entry promo codes must be redeemed by Wednesday, 4 October 2026.
